Prof. Yuan Yunsheng said: “We shall not lose patience with our own nation. As our vision gradually expands, our understanding of the ‘foundation’ will also be broadened, and we will have more confidence in our own culture.”
Influenced by his mentor Prof. Dong Xiwen, Prof. Yuan has yearned for Chinese traditional culture throughout his life. He has investigated the remaining ancient sculptures in various parts of China and marveled at the sublime and independence of Chinese sculptural modeling.

Prof. Yuan proposed that replications of ancient Chinese sculptures should be included in fundamental teaching and he firmly believed that Chinese modeling has its own system. The idea of “rebuilding the Chinese art education system” is not illusory as he always adheres to his ideals and beliefs in teaching, thinking, researching, and practicing.
