I have been tirelessly painting for decades, and all my attention has been focused on continuing the rich legacy of my predecessors. I keep striving to master the high-quality expression of oil painting, to reach a profound cultural cultivation, and I convey the aesthetic qualities of the Chinese people and the sentiments of contemporary individuals to the best of my ability. I devote myself to oil painting, never growing weary, and it makes me feel fulfilled.

Prof. Yang Feiyun has consistently focused on three pursuits in his artistic exploration, “first of all, he takes brushes as media to build a bridge connecting Eastern and Western arts, allowing Chinese representational oil painting to shine with unique brilliance in the world; secondly, he dedicates himself to education, promoting the spirit of educators, and creating fertile ground to nurture artistic talent, thus continuously contributing to the development of Chinese oil painting; thirdly, he cherishes life, elevating his artistic pursuit to a form of life practice, reaching a harmonious integration of art and spirit through relentless dedication,” said Lin Mao, President of the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

This exhibition is not only a profound review of his oeuvre but also a vivid interpretation of the grand exploration of Chinese oil painting, rooted in classical spirit and infused with the Eastern charm. “Yang’s artistic path is deeply rooted in the fertile academic environment of the First Studio of the Oil Painting Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in the 1980s. Under the rigorous teaching system established by Prof. Jin Shangyi, Yang and his peers upheld the banner of ‘learning from the masters’. The diligent and practical academic style of CAFA, like a silent spring rain, nurtured his lifelong artistic pursuit,” said Zhu Chunlin, Director of the Oil Painting Institute of the Chinese National Academy of Arts.
